FOTD: Highs and Lows

Hello, my Pretties!

One of the first "backed up blog posts" I had to share with you was this one I titled Highs and Lows.  I posted this on my Ms. Prettyful Girl Facebook Page and on Instagram and I received a lot of love on it.  I have to admit, it is one of my favorite looks.

It's simple.  It's pretty.

I decided on the name Highs and Lows because I used both high end makeup, MAC, and E.L.F. which is on the other end of the scale.  My tag line was, "Bet you can't tell what is MAC and what is E.L.F."  Haha.

By looking at the photo above, can you tell what makeup is high end and which is not??

I can never tell by looking at someone's face if they are wearing expensive makeup or not.  I guess that is why I tend to use bargain priced makeup.  I own very few high end pieces.  I do have some MAC and Urban Decay but I own a ton of E.L.F. and Wet n Wild.

I guess the point of this FOTD was to show you that you don't need to wear only expensive makeup to look good!  Don't feel bad if you can't afford to buy department store makeup.  I admit, sometimes I still feel bad about not having an expensive collection but makeup in general makes me feel great!

My face makeup which includes foundation, face powder and blush are all by Avon.

My eye makeup which includes my eye shadows, eye liner, eye primer, and mascara are either MAC or E.L.F.  Care to guess what is what?

My lips are also drugstore.  I am wearing Jordana and Wet n Wild.

So, what do you think?  Do you have a habit of mixing high and low pieces together?

♥ All items mentioned in this blog post were purchased with my sweet-tart's money. ♥

LFI: Mar Y Tierra

So, it's supposed to be spring but around here it's felt more like summer. With temperatures hitting the 103 degree mark a few days ago, I think we've just plain skipped spring and jumped right into summer.

As it usually is down here in the deep south Texas.

We really have only two seasons...fall and summer. It's never cold enough to consider it winter and it's always too hot and humid to say it's spring. Our "winter" is mainly December and January. All the other months are pretty dry and warm.

It makes me laugh that we had a "cold front" come in Wednesday and it was 83 degrees. Brrr...

Enough of me talking like a weather girl, here is my new LOOK FOR INSPIRATION. This is my ode to summer. My beachy look. I call it Mar y Tierra which translates to surf and turf. This look is my eye painting of a summer day at the beach.

Summer day on the beach.
White shadow on the brow bone is my fluffy white clouds.
The turquoise on my lower lash line is the ocean.

A mixture of a shimmer neutral and dark bronze is my sand.

A neutral look with just a hint of color.

A very wearable look.

Don't know about you all but now I want to drive out to the beach. My beach is an hour and 20 minutes away. Seriously, now I really want to go. I'm not much of a seafood person but OMG, there's this place called The Lost Galleon and it is soooo deelish. Mmmm....

Alright, My Pretties, have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Haul: Dollar General

I'm bAAAAck! LOL.

OK, so I have yet again, another haul from another dollar store. And once again, I have some more L.A. Colors eyeshadow palettes to show you. This time, I shopped at my local Dollar General that is across the street from where I live. I go in there often. I think they recognize me already.

I'm always on the look out for new makeup items they might put out. Joining in the mix as of late, is Wet 'N Wild. I need to try some of their blushes because the eyeshadow trios they carry, I already have. Anyways, back to the subject, here are some more L.A. Colors I picked up last week.
L.A. Colors 10 Color Eyeshadow
BES 482 Warm & BES 484 Brights
0.14 oz. (4g)
$1.00 each
L.A. Colors 5 Color Metallic Eyeshadow
BES 429 Ammunition
0.26 oz. (7.5g)
$1.50

(Sorry for the vertical pic. I can't fix it for the life of me.
Blogger hasn't been cooperating lately.)

BES 429 Ammunition

Just by swatching these, the Ammunition palette is my favorite. Imagine the smoky eye you can create with this! If only I could do a smoky eye...

Not bad at all for $3.50. I have yet to use these on my eyes so I'm excited to see how they will look once applied to my actual eyes.

I do have a few, maybe 3 more, of these 5 Color Metallic Eyeshadow palettes. I should do a blog post on my small collection of them. Anyone interested?

Well, My Pretties, that's all I have for right now. I've just done hauls lately. Sorry about that. I need to quit buying stuff!!

Haul: Dollar Tree Part 3

And last, but not least, here comes the last part of my Dollar Tree haul. FINALLY!

This haul also consists of L.A. Colors but this time I will be showcasing their 6 Color Eyeshadow pans. I bought a total of 5 of them.

L.A. Colors
6 Color Eyeshadow

0.14 oz (4g)
$1.00 each

Packaging is very simple.
Mine were extremely hard to open.
Nothing against sponge tip applicators,
but these sponge tip applicators are useless.

BEP 410 Dreamy

Dreamy swatches with flash.
Based on the swatches, this is my favorite palette.
All colors are pigmented.
All swatched the same as they appear in the pan.
BEP 411 Precious

Precious swatches with flash.
When I saw this palette in the store, it was the one palette I had to have.
Very disappointing. Colors were not pigmented at all.
The gold swatched great on my finger but would not transfer to my arm.

BEP 412 Hypnotic

Hypnotic swatches with flash.
Blues are NOT my favorite to wear but
this is a fantastic palette.
Period.

BEP 413 Sweet Pleasure

Sweet Pleasure swatches with flash.
Again, another palette that looked better in the pan.
The shadows apply too sheer for me.
I wanted more OOMPH!
But I can see how this might work for a sweet, innocent look.

BEP 415 Eye Candy

Eye Candy swatches with flash.
Sadly, another disappointment.
The blue shades were the only ones that "popped".
I loved that hot pink in the pan but it did not transfer well onto my arm at all.
The yellow appears more white.
The orange does not appear at all.

So...

Well, for spending $5.00 for 30 eyeshadows, I do feel like I got a good deal. While there were only a couple palettes that I liked ALL 6 shades, I did like a few shadows in the other palettes as well. I do not think that these palettes were a waste of money.

You do get what you pay for, so $1.00 per palette isn't going to get you MAC quality pigmentation but I am still happy with my purchase. The shadows were very smooth and soft. A couple of them were on the "powdery" or "chalky" side but a majority of them were very silky.

I am happy to add these to my ever expanding collection. Now, which palette to use first!

Flash Drive Massacre of 2011 Survivors

So, yeah it's late. I can't sleep. So I'm sitting here at my desk trying to entertain myself.

I've read a whole bunch of blogs, saw some vids on YouTube, and tweeted a little bit. And then I started going through all the folders on my desktop. I found some old pics, from last year, of some nice makeup I did on myself.

I don't know if you all remember but at the beginning of this year I lost just about all the pics I had on my flash drive. It was devastating to me. I had just started my blog and I had been collecting pics of myself that I wanted to feature on my new blog. I lost them all. Well, just about.

These are the last remaining survivors of the flash drive massacre of 2011.

Pink and Lime Green

Peach and Blue

Bright Blue and Bronze

Natural

Glam

Sorry it's not much to show but it's what I have. LOL. I do think that these looks are nice but I also feel that I have improved in my makeup technique and creativity in the last few months.

Stick with me and see how much more I can grow and evolve. I'm looking forward to it!

3/09/11 L'OREAL HIP DUO SERIES: DUO #5 ADVENTUROUS

Hello, My Pretties!

It feels like ages since the last time I posted a new blog entry! I've missed you all. I have been very busy lately. Nothing special. Just my everyday, day to day, life. My daughters take up most of my time and whatever is left, I share it with my sweetheart and my household chores and if there is a few seconds left, I try and squeeze in some time to breathe!

I've been doing great. No complaints over here. Well, maybe just one. I wish I did have more time to blog. I have quite a bit of blog posts that I'm working on to make up for lost time. I know February is a short month but I think I only posted like 12 entries! Wow, that's not nice.

So, I figured that today I would post another entry on my L'Oreal HIP Duo Series I've been working on since January. Crazy that I got 7 HIP Duos in January and I have yet to use them all. Whooops!

OK, well let's do duo #5. (After this one, I have two more to go!)

Adventurous is a very light, very wearable color. The two shades are very feminine and pretty. The light shade is a mix of light gold and nude for me with a slight shimmer. The pink is matte and more along the lines of a coral shade. Very pretty.

And here are the pictures of me wearing this duo on Monday, March 8th.

I like this duo because it is something that you can wear when you don't have a lot of time to do your makeup. It gives you a bright eyed look and you do look more awake and that's a good thing. It takes no time at all to apply. Blends very easily. Hard to make a mistake with it and if you do, it is very forgiving. I think anyone can wear this duo. I did this look in a couple of minutes. All I did was apply E.L.F. Eyelid Primer and then the HIP Duo. I topped off the look with Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Cosmic Brown and VS Beauty Rush Mascara in Ja-va-voom! So simple and looks very sweet.

Well, that's it. First blog post up in a very long time. I have got to get back in the swing of things so I hope to post again later today. Can't wait to hear from you, ladies!

AVON CAMPAIGN 26, 2010: HAUL

Where in the world have I been this February?!?! Seriously, where? What has been so important that I have abandoned my blog for over a week?? LIFE. I guess.

Oh my goodness, yes, life. So many things going on. Good and bad. I usually blog at the end of the day when the little ones are in bed but lately, I'm like, "forget that, I'm going to bed." So, so sad. I have been so exhausted that I cannot even think straight. Crazy, beautiful life.

So, since I'm on Project 5 Pan, I thought I would post some old hauls that I have. This is the oldest haul that I have. I got this back in December 2010. I have not used the products yet so no review just photos and swatches.

If you don't know by now, I do sell Avon and mark. so that is why you see a lot of Avon products on my blog. I have more Avon than anything else because 1) I sell it. I have to use it to know what I am selling and be able to recommend products. And 2) I get my purchases at a discount. Simple.

But since I started my blog, I have been buying a wider variety of brands of makeup. I mean, who wants to see a blog full of Avon products? It's not an Avon blog! In now way am I trying to get you to buy Avon. I'm just blogging about what I have. I like Avon, that's why I sell it. But honestly, I don't like all the products or colors or fragrances. I am not putting down the Avon company or name, I'm just being honest. I will not say I like something if I don't.

OK, with that being said, let's see what I bought back in Campaign 26.
