Avon: True Color Eyeshadow Quad: Go Natural

Hello, my Pretties!
Alas, Avon has decided to jump on the nude bandwagon!  Hee hee.  We all know that thanks to Urban Decay and their majorly successful Naked palettes, neutral shadows are all the rage these days.
I must admit, even I, a colorful-kind-of-makeup-girl, have been converted.
That's why when I saw that Avon was launching four new nude quads, I just had to grab one up.  Avon's True Color Eyeshadow Quads has a new collection called The Perfect Nudes Collection.  Avon's claim is, "from fair to deep, there's a perfect nude just for you!"
There are six quads in The Perfect Nudes Collection.  Two are existing shades, four are new.  In this collection you will have:
Stone Taupes for fair skin.
★Naked Truth for light skin.
★Barely There for light/medium skin.
Chocolate Sensation for medium skin.
★Go Natural for medium/deep skin.
★Grin & Bare It for deep skin.
(★ New shades.)
I picked out Go Natural.
The texture is silky smooth on all shadows for the exception of the #3 shade.  That one felt a little more on the gritty side.
The eyeshadow pans are embossed with numbers 1-4 to show you where in your eye to apply them.  The map is on the bottom of the palette.  But of course, you can apply them any way you please.
In the photo I included, I swatched each of the shadows on the inside of my wrist over bare skin.  No base.  No primer.  No foundation.  Right off the bat, I think the pigmentation is A+!
In my opinion, the shadows applied easily and smoothly and they blended well.  I did not have any fading throughout the day but I did apply the Avon Eyeshadow Primer on my eyelids before applying the shadows.
These eyeshadow quads sell for $7.00 but you can get them on sale often for only $5.99.  Visit my online Avon eStore at www.youravon.com/lmartinez2920.  And check out my Avon Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/TXAvonLadyLisa.

Hello, my Pretties!

We are well on our way into July and I am still posting my photos for the Avon Makeup Maven 30 Day Challenge.  Never fear.  We are almost done.  Two more to go!

I have had this Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad for a very long time.  I had not used it until this challenge came along.  This is Mocha Latte.

There are two shimmer shades and two matte shades.  Perfect!  This is a wonderful go-to palette.  It is great for work time, day time, any time!  The colors are nicely pigmented and the textures are nice and smooth, blendable.

Right now you can purchase this quad and 11 others for $4.99, 44% off the regular $9.00 brochure price.  (Size: .20 oz. total net wt.)  Click HERE to be taken directly to the Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad page in my online Avon eStore.

Avon Makeup Maven 30 Day Challenge for June: Day 19

Hello, my Pretties!

I have a fun product for you today.

This is the Avon Big Color Eye Pencil in Aquamarine.  These jumbo eye pencils are very handy to have.  You can use them as an eye liner or a shadow or even as an eyeshadow base.  They are extremely creamy and blend easily.  The lasting power is good when you wear over an eye primer.  I applied Aquamarine all over my entire lid and lower lash line.  After I applied a peach shade of mineral eyeshadow on top and it looked awesome!

Click HERE to see all 10 Big Color Eye Pencil shades available.  And make sure you grab one!  They are 50% off today!  Regular price is $7.00 for .056 oz. net wt. of product but you can buy one now for ONLY $3.39!  Yay!

This is my last post for tonight.  I failed at posting all 30 challenges in the 30 days of June because I always have to save everything for the last minute instead of doing the allotted challenge on the allotted day.  Will I ever learn my lesson???

Oh well.  I tried.  I'm bummed but I do have all 30 days done, I just have to blog about them now.  I'll continue later on today and finish posting challenges 20-30.

Thank you so much for sticking by me through this long, long marathon!

Avon Makeup Maven 30 Day Challenge for June: Day 16

Hello, my Pretties!

Today I have a new product for you!  Yay!

Well, I guess the product isn't new.  This is a NEW shade in the existing Avon True Color Eyeshadow Duo line.  This is Luscious Orchid.  I am in love.  I promise you.  At first glance and in the brochure, this duo looks like a purple and brown.  I love wearing purple and brown together!  But once I applied it, it's more of a purple and gold.  Even better!  The purple applies more like a matte while the gold is more of a shimmer.  The two colors and finishes compliment each other perfectly.

This is one of two new duos Avon just released for summer as part of the Fiji Paradise collection.

Click HERE to go directly to the Avon True Color Eyeshadow Duo Fiji Paradise collection page in my online Avon eStore.  Regular price on these is $7.00 for .099 total oz. net wt. but right now you can buy them 50% off for ONLY $3.49!  Now you can get BOTH duos for the price of one!

Avon Makeup Maven 30 Day Challenge for June: Day 11

Hello, my Pretties!

Are you ready for Day 11?  Here it is:

This is the Avon Mega Impact Eyeshadow in Punched Up Peach.  These Mega Impact Eyeshadow duos can be used wet or dry.  When I first applied these shadows, I applied them dry.  But I did not see that much pigmentation.  I figured, why not try them wet, then.  So I did.  No much difference.  The champagne shade was still very subtle but the peach shade did intensify even if every so slightly.

There are 8 shades of these duos to choose from.  Catch them on sale right now, 37% off!  Regular price is $8.00 for .155 oz. net wt. but you can grab them for only $4.99 right now.  Visit the Avon Mega Impact Eyeshadow page in my online Avon eStore by clicking HERE.

I hope that the pigmentation was a little lackluster only because these shadows are supposed to be light and subtle.  But there are some darker duos that I would love to try and see how they stand up to the wet/dry option.

Avon Makeup Maven 30 Day Challenge for June: Day 4

Hello, my Pretties!

And I am back (so soon, I know) with my featured Avon product for Day 4.

Let's see, we've covered two Totally Kissable Lipsticks and a Speed Dry+ Nail Enamel.  Now, let's show off some eyeshadows!

Day 4 is all about Avon True Color Eyeshadow Duo in Hawaiian Glow*.

Avon True Color Eyeshadow Duo in Hawaiian Glow*
Product size: .099 total oz. net wt.
*DISCONTINUED

While this specific shade is now discontinued, I still shared with you because it really is a nice duo.  I wanted you to see the quality of the product.  The way it looks in the pan in comparison to the swatches over bare skin and the way it looks on the eyes.

These shadows are very soft and go on lightly but the color can be built up a little bit.  The texture is very smooth and they blend easily.

Even though this one is discontinued, there are still 10 other True Color Eyeshadow Duos to choose from and they retail for regular brochure price at $7.00.

I love to throw this on my eyes when I am at a loss for time because the duo goes so well together.  It takes the guessing out of trying to find colors that compliment each other.  The peachy pink and taupe shade are lovely and can be used for everyday go-to eyes and is perfect for work appropriate looks.

If you would like to take a look at the other 10 duos that are still for sale, visit my Avon eStore by clicking HERE.  And just so you have something to look forward to, I just ordered the Vivid Orchid duo so that should be coming in in about a week!

Series: BH Cosmetics Look Three

Hello, my Pretties!

Eeeep!

I am so super excited to share this look with you.  I don't know why but I am in love with this look.  It's not too crazy and it's not extremely fabulous but let me tell you, I sure did feel amazing while wearing it.  And at the end of the day, isn't feeling good what makes you beautiful?

I wore this look to my brother-in-law's birthday day party.  It was a luau themed party, hence the bright fluorescent pink top.  But that shade of pink was so hard to match!  I wasn't going to pair the top with a twin shade of Hi-Liter pink eyeshadow (even if I had that shade of pink) because that would be overkill.  But I did incorporate pink along the lower lash line.

BH Cosmetics 120 Eyeshadow Palette 2nd Edition is amazing!  The pigmentation of the shadows are wonderful.  I think I could just use this one eyeshadow palette forever and I'd be happy.  But I won't, I love makeup too much to be faithful to one palette!

P.S.
Tomorrow is June! Well, more like in 13 minutes for me here in Texas.  Wow.  June.  It's summer, baby!!

Review: L.A. Colors

Hello, my Pretties!

Back in March, L.A. Colors was kind enough to send me a sweet little package for review.  I was deeply excited.  For those of you who follow my blog, you know me to be a fan of L.A. Colors.  I use their eyeshadows and lipsticks often in my posts.

Now before we get started, let me just state that THE ITEMS MENTIONED IN THIS POST WERE SENT TO ME FREE OF CHARGE BY L.A. COLORS AND/OR THEIR PR REPRESENTATIVES IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW ON MY BLOG.  Like I said, I will be providing you with my honest opinion in this post, just like all my others.

Also, for the first time I'll be "grading" these products.  I'll keep it simple for my sake as well as yours.  The product will either get a grade of A, B, or C.

A is for awesome, amazing!
B is for buy it, try it, you might like it.
C is for "C" ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!

Haha!

With that being said, let's get on with the fun stuff, shall we?!

I just wanted to say thanks for making the
packaging really cute and personalized!

I received 7 awesome goodies courtesy of L.A. Colors.

Let me just quickly list all items received.

1. L.A. Colors Glossin Go! On-the-Go Pocket Lipgloss in CLG956 Kisses
2. L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in NP541 Candysprinkles
3. L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in NP521 Illusion
4. L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Pot in CES159 Vibrant Viola
5. L.A. Colors Grafix Eyeliner in CLE731 Black
6. L.A. Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil in CP411 Bikini Time
7. L.A. Colors 3 Color Eyeshadow Palette in CES445 Sunflower

As you can see, my Vibrant Viola arrived broken...

...as did my Bikini Time.

The good news is that I contacted Vanessa Trinh, who gave me the opportunity in the first place to review these products and she was able to replace these damaged goods.  Thank you, Vanessa, for such speedy assistance!

See?  Here are Vibrant Viola and Bikini Time in their untouched glory.
L.A. Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil in CP411 Bikini Time.
L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Pot in CES159 Vibrant Viola.

Swatches of Bikini Time.
Top: Straight from the tube.
Bottom: Blended out with fingers.

I swatched Bikini Time on my forearm without any primer, foundation, or base.  Straight out of the tube, the purple hue is very vibrant, almost duochromatic.  Once you blend it out, since you have to when you apply it to your lids or else you run the risk of creasing, it looses it's punch but it still looks duochrom-y.  It is very creamy for being a pencil type product.  It blended out easily but then it was hard to keep the color on my lids.  With blending came the fading.  The worst part was that after a few minutes, the creasing began.  Even after I had applied it over my favorite go to eyelid primer.  I don't recommend using this on it's own but it did work well as a base for Vibrant Viola and would work well with any purple in your collection.

L.A. Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil in CP411 Bikini Time:
MY GRADE: C
0.13 oz./3.8 g
Website claims:
♥ Vibrant colors
♥ Soft, silky application
♥ Innovating shades

Swatch of Vibrant Viola.

I swatched Vibrant Viola on my forearm without any primer, foundation, or base.  The texture of this eyeshadow single is very soft and blends out easily.  As for pigmentation, it isn't WOW but it's still a pretty purple.  Slightly more on the sheer side for my taste.  Just and FYI, if you blend too much, you lose a lot of the color.  You need to pack it on first, then blend it out slightly.  Worked well over Bikini Time as a base.

L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Pot in CES159 Vibrant Viola:
MY GRADE: B
6.5 g/0.23 oz.
Website claims:
♥ Vibrant colors
♥ Soft, silky application
♥ Innovating shades

L.A. Colors 3 Color Eyeshadow Palette in CES445 Sunflower.

Swatches of Sunflower.

I swatched Sunflower on my forearm without any primer, foundation, or base.  The colors in the pan are beautiful!  They remind me of fall, though.  Once swatched, they appear more as a wash of color rather than a highly pigmented shadow.  There is a nice sheen to all three shades.  I love how the trios are coordinated.  The colors are perfect together!  But as you use these shadows, the metallic sheen seems to be just on the top layer of the shadows.

L.A. Colors 3 Color Eyeshadow Palette in CES445 Sunflower:
MY GRADE: B
0.19 oz./5.5 g
Website claims:
♥ Brush applicator
♥ Long lasting
♥ Vivid colors
http://lacolors.com/3-Color-Eyeshadow-2663.html

L.A. Colors Grafix Eyeliner in CLE731 Black.

Swatches of Grafix Eyeliner.

I am so in love with this eyeliner.  It is so BLACK!  It's wonderfully pigmented.  I love the applicator.  It is a foam tip but it is long and flexible with enough pressure.  In the swatches above, I demonstrated what a light hand can do, a thin line, and what a little bit more pressure can do, a thicker line.  Lately I have been all about a thin eyeliner line and this will be a great addition to my daily makeup routine!  In the swatch photo above, there appears to be some "bleeding" of the eyeliner but I did not have that problem when applied to my eyes.  It wore like a dream.

L.A. Colors Grafix Eyeliner in CLE731 Black:
MY GRADE: A
3.5 ml/0.12 fl. oz.
Website claims:
♥ Smudge/tear proof
♥ Water resistant
♥ Foam tipped applicator
http://lacolors.com/Grafix-Liquid-Liner-2779.html

Just for fun, I decided I'd to a pictorial showcasing Bikini Time, Vibrant Viola and all three shadows in Sunflower along with the Grafix Eyeliner.

Purple and brown/gold is one of my favorite eyeshadow combos.

L.A. Colors Glossin Go in CLG956 Kisses.

Swatch of Kisses.

This lip gloss is pretty cute.  The packaging is perfect for your pockets, especially the back pockets in your jeans!  It has a slim and tapered design that doesn't add bulk to your behind.  Haha.  As for the color, I could tell that it would be very sheer by the way it appeared in the tube.  It's a clear pink base overflowing with what looks like pink, clear, and purple glitters and shimmers.  The glitters transfer to your lips.  You can see it in the swatch photo above.  It feels very smooth on the lips and is not sticky at all.  It contains Vitamin E which is great and it is non sticky which is even better!  I did smell the faint aroma of vanilla but there is no taste what-so-ever.  I don't like when my glosses have flavors.  Haha.

L.A. Colors Glossin Go On-the-Go Pocket Lipgloss in CLG956 Kisses:
MY GRADE: B
0.19 fl. oz./5.5 ml
Website claims:
♥ Silky smooth application
♥ Super shiny
♥ Light vanilla scent

Not only did I get goodies for my face but I got some for my nails too!

L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish
in NP521 Illusion.

Swatch of Illusion.
Two coats.

Uh, can I say, OMG?!  I love this color.  Love it!  I am a fan of purple.  This is beyond pretty.  I'm so, so pleased to have received this polish.  It's amazing.  The color is like a lavender but more vibrant, not pastel.  This is going to by a definite go to shade for spring for sure!  The formula is easy to apply, not too thick or too thin.  Perfection, really.

L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in NP521 Illusion:
MY GRADE: A
0.44 fl. oz./13 ml
Website claims:
♥ Long lasting
♥ Quick drying
♥ Chip resistant

L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish
in NP541 Candysprinkles.

Swatch of Candysprinkles.
Two coats.

Here is another amazing nail polish.  I love this one.  I love the name.  It reminds me of a cupcake with sprinkles on it.  I had to fight the urge to lick my nails.  Haha.  Good thing this isn't one of those scented nail polishes.  Imagine if it smelled like vanilla!  Haha.  This one was a bit sheer with one coat but with the second one it is much better.  The rainbow of red, yellow, green and blue glitters really pop against a bubble gum pink background.

Oh and just so you know, there are 72 of these Color Craze Nail Polish shades to choose from!

L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in NP541 Candysprinkles:
MY GRADE: A
0.44 fl. oz./13 ml
Website claims:
♥ Long lasting
♥ Quick drying
♥ Chip resistant

And that's all she wrote!

Don't forget to check out all these products and more at www.lacolors.com.

Let me extend a THANK YOU to Vanessa Trinh and L.A. Colors for allowing me this opportunity!

Buy and Blog: Alice Elan Beauty Benefits by Markwins

Hello, my Pretties!

A couple of weeks ago I walked into my local Family Dollar for a couple of items.  I always browse the cosmetics department because you never know what you might find.  The Family Dollar is usually where I stock up on my L.A. Colors--eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses, and nail polishes.

Right now is a good time to check out the makeup aisle of any store since there are so many gift sets available for the upcoming holidays.  I think this little purchase I made was meant as a stocking stuffer idea or something.  After all, it only cost $1.00!

Alice Elan Beauty Benefits
Beauty in Focus

I didn't know that the mascara was going to be blue.  No where on the packaging did I see that it stated it was a blue mascara.  I guess I don't mind.  I would have preferred black but sometimes getting something unexpectedly is the only way you try something new.

Based on the finger tip swatch below, the pigmentation is not that great.  Or is it?  I've never used a colored mascara before.  I did apply it to my lashes.  I didn't see anything!  My lashes did look a little bit longer but not thicker, not darker, not blue-er.

And for those of you who are interested, here are the mascara ingredients:

Now for the main reason why I made this purchase, the eyeshadow palette.  You all know I am a shadow fiend!  I thought at first glance that these colors were so beautiful.  Perfect for the fall/winter seasons.  If they applied and wore well, I'd have hit the makeup jackpot!

The top four shadows remind me of what one would call a 'day look'.  The colors are light to medium tones. Very neutral.

Once swatched, I noticed that the lighter shades were the more pigmented shadows.  The top left corner shadow is very chalky.  Very, very chalky.  The others were nice.  I was most excited about the mid tone shade but that blended in perfectly with my skin tone!  Haha.

Now the next four shades, to me, seem more along the lines of a  'night time look' or 'holiday look'.  I admit, I was dying to try the red shade!

And once I swatched them, I was greatly disappointed by the green shade.  It shows up as such a pretty emerald in the pan but does not translate well on to the skin at all.  The gold shimmer in it is apparent though but over all, the green was a no go.  The red was just OK too.  I had to use a lot of red to get it to show up like this.  The cream color is nice and the black shade was not a disaster.  It was extremely pigmented.

And here are the eyeshadow ingredients:

All in all, not my most favorite frugalista buy.  It was only a dollar so I got a lot of product for a buck.  A lot of usable product??  Maybe not.  I'm pretty sure I will still use this palette because that's just how I am.  The light shadows work very well as brow high lights.  The black is good for an eyeliner or just to add into the crease or outer V to deepen up any look.  As for the mascara, maybe I can use that underneath my regular mascara just to thicken up my lashes some.

It was only a dollar so I couldn't expect much so I'm not disappointed.  Didn't hit the jackpot with this one but I think I got my dollar's worth.

♥♥Products mentioned in this blog post were purchased with my own money.  These are my own thoughts and honest opinions.♥♥

Swatches: Dark Heart Designs: C-D

Hello, my Pretties!

Back in August I shared the news with you that I had been selected as a partner in Dark Heart Designs Swatch Program.

I get sent samples of the products to swatch them for Tina, the owner of DHD.  There was a handful of us chosen to participate in the Swatch Program.  Tina picked all of us based on our skin tone.  We submit the swatches to her which she then posts on her website so customers can see what the products will look like on their skin.  I think it's a great idea!  Different colors show up differently on different skin tones.

In the first wave of swatches, we got sent: 5 eyeshadows, 1 eyeliner, 1 lip gloss, and 1 lipstick.  This time we got 11 eyeshadows and 1 face primer.

To see that post, click HERE.

Here was what was in my package this time around.

Like last time, Tina included a handwritten note of thanks.  I think that is really sweet that she takes the time to do so.

Inside the note card were the sample baggies of the 11 shadows and face primer.

I just ADORE how her sample baggies have the shadow names printed on them.  I don't know how she does it but I love it.  They look great!

This phase of the Swatch Program included the shadows with the names starting with C-D:
Catalyst, Charmed, Clean Slate, Coral Fang, Cotton Candy, Crash Love, Curse, Deal, Dirty, Dirty Diana, Dragons and the Face Primer.

Here is what I swatched the shadows with.  I used Dark Heart Designs Magic Eyelixir.  You just add a drop or two to the powder shadow to make it wet and it totally intensifies the shadow to the max!

You can purchase the Magic Eyelixir for $2.99 for the small vial (4 mL) or pay $4.99 for the large vial
(8 mL).

And last time I failed to do a swatch using a popular base.  Last time I did the swatches on bare skin (no primer, base, or Magic Eyelixir).  I saw that the other girls in the Swatch Program did their swatches on bare skin, over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, and mixed with Magic Eyelixir.  I could not find my NYX JEP in Milk for the life of me (and I have 2 of them!) so I just used the next best thing, NYX Eyeshadow Base in White.

And here are the swatches:

Catalyst

Charmed

Clean Slate

Coral Fang

Cotton Candy

Crash Love

Curse

Deal

Dirty

Dirty Diana

Dragons

All of these shadows can be purchased at http://darkheartdesigns.storenvy.com and retail for $5.99 plus, all the shadows that I swatched are VEGAN too.

See all 69 shades of shadows by clicking HERE.

As for the Face Primer, you can PREORDER yours for $10.00.  The Face Primer is available for only a limited time and come in a 1 oz. squeeze tube.  Check out the primer HERE.
